Water Desalination and Waste Water Treatment

Recognizing the huge need for water in the Kingdom for the next 10 years and beyond the Company has recently entered in the field of seawater desalination and waste water treatment. Along with SETE Technical Services, Aquatech  Far Eastern FZE and WTD s.r.l of Italy, a consortium was formed which won the tender for the design, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of a reverse osmosis sea water  desalination plant having the initial capacity of 30,000 cubic meter/day capable of expansion to 45,000 cubic meter/day for the King Abdulaziz International Airport on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis and entered into Water Purchase Agreement with General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) on 26 February 2007.  The agreement has been novated to a special purpose company formed by the consortium, titled "Qatarat Saqia Desalination Co., Ltd" to implement the project in which the Company holds 42.5% of its equity.  The plant is scheduled to come into commercial production in early 2009, and will be transferred to GACA after 20 years i.e. in 2029.
